Amsterdam: The most boring subway stations?
Anil Dash just posted a link to a great page about subway stations that have an art feeling about them. A lot of the stations listed on that page are just stunning. It makes me wanna go to Stockholm, Baku and Bilbao just to check them out. Rotterdam also earns a place on that list, but (of course) not Amsterdam. And it's completely justified. Expressions of art in the subway of Amsterdam is very limited. There's the Nieuwmarkt station, where there's some art to reference the deportation of Jews in the second world war, and there's some letter graffiti on the Waterloo- and the Wibaut station, but that's it (Edit : I'm forgetting the Egyptian hieroglyphs on the entrance to the Waterloo station near the botanic garden). The local public transport company wants to refurbish the stations, but those plans are still in the waiting room due to it being expensive. But those refurbishments are all about making the stations more socially safe. And I can't remember reading anything about art expression on the new subway line that's being built right now. Is there a city whose subway stations are more boring?
