LiveJournal layoff

From ValleyWag:

LiveJournal, the San Francisco-based arm of Sup, a Russian Internet startup, has cut about 1220 of 28 employees — and offered them no severance, we're told. (...) The company's product managers and engineers were laid off, leaving only a handful of finance and operations workers — which speaks to a website to be left on life support.

20 sounds like an awful lot. Best wishes to those that are involved.

The number was wrong. (I've seen numbers of '13/30 US Staff' from people I trust a lot more, but.) 13 is still a lot of people to have to let go, though; cutting deep sucks.

13 sounds like a much saner number. Still though indeed.

Do you think we should be afraid anything will happen to our journals?

No, I don't think so. Still in capable hands. But interesting nonetheless, and worth knowing what is happening with LJ. (I wonder when they'll figure out that communicating these things in an open fashion is better for them -- this caused a lot of turmoil on twitter yesterday, and all they could come up with was http://livejournalinc.com/press_releases/20090106.php :))

Hm, okay. I do have to say I had a better feeling about the whole company when it was still in Fitzpatrick's hands. Communication isn't their strongest point it seems.
