Problems With Address Bar And Hotmail

Hey guys!!

I got Firefox 3 on Download Day and I haven't had any problems with it until recently.

I'm finding I'm having to "encourage" FF to go to webpages alot of the time. Clicking a link or typing a URL doesn't seem to be enough sometimes. I have to click on the url again and press "enter" again. Or sometimes I have to refresh just to get it to load for the first time. Like I'm reminding it what I only just asked it to do a moment ago.

I also started getting this message whenever I try to get into my Hotmail account:

"Upgrade your web browser
We recommend that you upgrade your web browser so you can get the most out of Windows Live Hotmail. Upgrading should only take a few minutes. To get started, choose one of the browsers below:

* Microsoft Internet Explorer
* Mozilla Firefox
* Apple Safari

If you don’t want to upgrade right now you can still continue to Windows Live Hotmail, but some parts of it may not work and it may not be displayed properly."

I don't get this at all because obviously I have upgraded my browser and I didn't have any problems to start with.

I wondered if I was the only one, or if anyone had this problem, but managed to fix it? ^^;

Thanks for reading.

Rockband

I went to Haarlem on friday. I went there to find a specific something, but I didn't find it. So I went on to see what the local gameshop had. I only went out of that store about 4 hours later.

This was caused by the fact that they have a tv on which the guys who work in the store where playing Rockband. And ohh man that game is addictive. When I went into the store one of the guys was playing something that looked like Guitar Hero to me but I noticed some small differences. So I asked the guy behind the counter what it was. And he explained it was rockband. After I while I got a shot at trying the guitar version (on the X-box) and it worked almost the same as Guitar Hero.

But after a while they plugged in the PS3 version of Rockband, because one of the guys from the store wanted to play on the drums. (I think they didn't have the drums for the X-box version) It looked nice and after a while I got to take a shot at it too. And that drumming is really addictive. Only the guitar they had with this version didn't play as nice as the one I am used to.

At one point we were even playing with 3 people at the same time. I was drumming, one guy from the store was playing the guitar and another guy was singing XD We attracted quite the crowd. :P

ps. I was only nervous at the beginning and that is quite a lot for me already.

New Emilie icons!

Compare cache efficiency and file access in browsers.

Hi All

Please anyone help me with comparing browsers'
cache efficiency.

We're working on a web product, which heavily uses cache subsystem
of a browser. I need to access the situation, and understand the impact
we may have on our application performance in different browsers.

Our application works a lot with HTML and CSS files, thus the efficiency and
the files operations mechanisms are critical - the better they work the better our
application will work.

Thanks a lot.

P.S Sorry for a little cross-posting.

That book meme

Hey, if I'm up either way.

The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed. 1) Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2) Italicize those you intend to read. 3) Underline the books you LOVE. 4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them. ;-) WATCHING MOVIES DOES NOT COUNT.

Had a dream where me and two friends had to fling together an abridged version of a Shakespearish play in less than a week. And we had to do everything ourselves, provide the abridges script, be the entire cast, make the costumes, the music...

And in between that there was a lot of getting lost, running into supposedly famous people and market-folk yelling at each other.

In other semi-interesting news; Yesterday a Rogue I didn't know tried to pick my pockets in Silvermoon, but the emote got lost in my pile of channelspam. Got a whisper going "Ignoring me?" that notified me to the event, made a small mental note, and continued RPing with an ex-guildy.
A short while later, the rogue returns and goes for the pockets gain. This time, I do some frowning at my pocket and give a general swipe around my headarea because hey, this is Dai'inill, if something tugs his robes it can be anything from a squirrel to an assassin.
And Heaven forbid I 'ignore' the rogue a second time.
I get another whisper from her asking rather testily if I would like to explain how I could've possibly noticed her pickpocketing as she had a reputation of being a good thief.
ooooohkay.
Explained that I couldn't smell her reputation (she had no RP flag addon for as far as I could tell), and a hand going into a pocket close to the skin would cause some pressure to be felt. If that wasn't enough, I was a warlock, and that comes with the skill to detect some invisible shit.
Que rant about how Invisibility was for mages and ghosts and stealth was something else entirely so I couldn't possibly have noticed her at all.
Halfway through me asking what the hell it was she wanted since I was apparently wrong in not actually noticing her I got a message telling me I'm a godemoter.

uuuh what?

Watched her bounce around the general area for a while before asking beforementioned ex-guildy if she knew her and if she was always this much of an indecisive bint. Apparently no one knew her, but she was following people around.

Guess she was showing off her speshul skills in an attempt to join a guild :/

In better wow-related news; Had a cute little PUG to the Crypts yesterday before the godemoter incident. It was madness, but we only wiped once. I got to solo-aoe the hell out of those skeleton-groups at the end with the priest giving me a shield. It was fun :D

Venne, Adriaen Pietersz. van de (1618)

Princes Maurice and Frederick Henry of Orange at Valkenburg Horse Fair, is ostensibly the subject of this painting. In fact the two princes are only a minor detail: they are sitting in an open coach, left of centre, pulled by six greys. But far more is happening in this picture. The artist, Adriaen van de Venne, is a true storyteller. With a keen eye for detail he constructed this composition scene by scene. The annual horse fair at the village of Valkenburg near Leiden in South Holland was a popular event. People came from far and wide, and not only to buy and sell. The fair was also traditionally a place of entertainment.

Hi, folks! Today is my birthday, and I have spent it lying around and knitting, and napping, and listening to music, and watching the ABC Family Channel or whatever it's called, because they're having a Harry Potter marathon (hence the napping!).

I also spent some time calling my family to congratulate them on various things. For example: on this day 28 years ago, my mom became a mother! My father became a father! My aunts became aunts and my uncles became uncles! My grandparents became grandparents! I was the very first baby in my generation, and they all love me a lot, so I am super lucky. I get on pretty well with the majority of my family, which, I am told, is rare. The members of my family with whom I do not get on, I just refuse to see. Apparently this is also rare -- people enjoy torturing themselves by visiting hated relatives. I refuse to do this. Why bother with people who don't like me?

(I have this rule called The Rule of Awesome, and it states that in order for a relationship to work, I must think the other person is awesome and the other person must think that I am awesome. So far this rule has not let me down.)

Anyway, here's what I want to tell you about: Around 11 a.m. my doorbell rang. I scrambled into clothing and answered the door. It was a stranger, a man holding a giant potted plant. Now, I knew it had to be from someone who knows me really well, because most people don't know that I loathe and despise cut flowers, especially as gifts. (Here! Let me gift upon you death!) I signed for the flowers.

Then he motioned to someone in his truck and out popped a man dressed as Elvis! He was wearing a nylon bodysuit in white. It had fringe covered in neon pony beads. His sunglasses were aviators, and, I have to say, they really made the outfit. He was not wearing blue suede shoes, which was disappointing.

The nylon made me think he was a stripper, and he said, "Do you want to do this right here?" and I was petrified that he was a stripper -- but then I realized that he had a guitar. He sang "All Shook Up"!! There was leering, and strange gyrations, and weird guitar jiggling. I assume all of these things are imitations of strange things Elvis once did.

You guys, an Elvis impersonator sang to me for my birthday on my porch, in front of my neighbors and the post lady and god and everyone! All thanks to [info]gl0ry_gl0ry and [info]erratic0101! They have strange and twisted minds, and boy did that make my day.

Wie kan me helpen?

7. Waar ben je nu onzeker over?

Delicious pie!

A post by [info]greatbiggary talked about how he automated setting up his desktops in Ubuntu. This set me to the trail of wmctrl, which can be used to manipulate windows in various desktop managers. But one tutorial also spoke of Devil's Pie, a util to manipulate windows as they are being created...
So this evening, after bottling up the really light beer, I created a settings file and a shell script to start up Devil's Pie, followed by the applications I always want running. Then I added this script to the list of programs that are run when I log in.

And presto: instant personalised settings! And quite easy to set up, too.

If you find yourself always moving windows around, or going to a particular desktop to start up a particular program, Devil's Pie is what you need. Just define a rule, and the program will automagically appear at the designated place on startup.
